About Open Source

Open source is the workshop with the door left open. Everything in this category is built in public, with source anyone can read, fork and fix. Expect solo builders and small crews shipping apps you can run today, libraries you can bolt onto your own build, tools you host on your own kit and models you can inspect and retrain.

Listings appear newest first, and you can sort by community votes instead. Votes can never be bought, so the order reflects real interest. When you compare projects, read the licence, check the docs for a clear first step, and see how the maker talks about what is unfinished. A good bench has honest labels on the drawers. Use the subcategories below to narrow the pegboard, or filter within them.

Open Source: questions answered

What belongs in the Open Source category?
Products and businesses whose source code is public and can be read, run or modified by others. That covers finished apps, code you import into your own work, software you host yourself and openly available AI models. Closed products with only a public changelog belong elsewhere.
How do I choose between the subcategories?
Pick by how people use the thing. If they install and click, it is an app. If they import it into code, it is a library. If they run it on their own server, it is self-hosted. If a model is the core of it, choose open source AI.
How do I get my open source project listed?
Go to /submit and paste your website address. An AI drafts the profile from that site, then you check and edit every field before anything goes live. Your main category is included free. An upgrade at $5 adds up to 3 more.
How are projects ordered on this page?
Newest first by default, so fresh launches get seen. Visitors can switch to sorting by community votes. Votes can never be bought, so a project cannot pay its way up the list. Filters let you narrow the results within any subcategory.
What should I check when comparing open source options?
Start with the licence and whether it suits your use. Then look at the documentation, how clearly the maker describes current limits, and whether the project is still being worked on. A small, honest, well-documented tool often serves better than a sprawling half-finished one.
