Does Visual Edit Lite work with my theme?

Yes, if it is a block theme. Twenty Twenty-Five and other themes built on templates and patterns work straight away. It also works on themes converted from static HTML because every html2wp conversion declares what the editor needs. On a classic PHP theme the visual editor does not work, but forms, email delivery, mailing lists, SEO, redirects and llms.txt keep working.

Can a client edit a static HTML site without code?

Not while it stays static HTML, because every change means editing the files. Once you convert the website to WordPress with html2wp and install the Visual Edit editor, they can click text, image, link, form or menu on the live page and save changes. Visual Edit Lite is free and needs no license key.

Is Visual Edit a page builder?

No. A page builder rebuilds the page out of its own widgets, and the site then needs the builder to display. Visual Edit is a WordPress frontend editor that edits elements already on the page. On a block theme it works inside WordPress's own editor with content staying in plain blocks, and on HTML-converted sites the page markup stays the same as the design. In both cases the theme displays without the plugin.

What happens if I deactivate Visual Edit?

The site keeps working. Pages, blog, forms, menus, SEO and redirects are the theme's own code. Deactivating the plugin removes only the editing interface, and the design stays in place.

What it is

Visual Edit is a free front-end WordPress website editor that works with block themes like Twenty Twenty-Five and with websites converted from static HTML using html2wp. You edit content by clicking directly on the page—headings, images, links, forms, menus—without needing to access the code. The editor integrates with WordPress's own Site and Post Editor, keeping content in standard blocks. Every change is saved as a point you can return to. The paid Pro version adds AI chat editing with your own API key, theme export, spam protection, and extended edit history. Visual Edit is not a page builder; the site displays without it, and removing the plugin leaves all content, menus, forms and SEO in place.
