NativeCode 2.0 Beta is a local-first AI coding IDE for macOS and Windows that connects to Ollama, LM Studio or any OpenAI-compatible server with a 7.11 MB macOS

What it is

nativecode.jakubhecht.sk, as visitors see it

NativeCode 2.0 Beta brings a redesigned VS Code-inspired workspace with Monaco editor, paired with Ollama, LM Studio or any OpenAI-compatible server. It includes a plan mode for safe coding operations, project memory, skills, pinned context, web access and vision support with an approval flow for write operations.

The app uses the system WebView on macOS (WKWebView) and Windows (WebView2) instead of bundling Chromium, keeping the macOS download to just 7.11 MB compared to roughly 150 MB for Electron-based IDEs. The coding agent can read, write, create, edit, delete, rename, move and search project files, run approved shell commands and review its own work.

NativeCode runs completely local by default with Ollama or LM Studio, supporting any model your backend reports including reasoning and vision models. All code and conversations remain on your machine with zero telemetry by default, making it a private alternative to cloud-based coding assistants.

Questions from the bench

Do I need internet to use NativeCode?
Only to install your model server and download a model. Once Ollama or LM Studio has a local model ready, NativeCode can work completely locally.
Which models can I use with NativeCode?
Every model reported by Ollama, LM Studio or another OpenAI-compatible server, including reasoning and vision models. Any Ollama tag like Qwen3, Qwen3-Coder, Qwen3-VL, Gemma 3 and more.
Why is the macOS download only 7.11 MB?
Because no browser engine ships inside it. The NativeCode interface is a web UI hosted in a thin native shell that renders through the WebView already built into macOS (WKWebView), while Electron apps bundle their own copy of Chromium, which is why those downloads usually start around 150 MB.
Is NativeCode an alternative to Cursor?
Yes. NativeCode is a private, local-first alternative to Cursor. With Ollama or LM Studio running locally, your code and conversations remain on your machine, and the download is a fraction of the size.
Is my code sent anywhere?
Not with local models. NativeCode has zero telemetry by default and you can verify this with Windows Defender Firewall or GlassWire.
