What it is
AutoRouter is a Mac application that integrates with Codex and Claude Code to automatically select the optimal AI model for each task. It routes requests first to your existing ChatGPT and Claude subscriptions, then to other models when needed, intelligently matching task difficulty to model capability to minimize costs.
The app reads each turn for its difficulty and type of work, then weighs your plan limits and custom rules to balance cost, quality and speed. It appears as a model option in your existing app's model picker, requiring no new workflows to learn.
AutoRouter provides routing rules in plain English that can be customized, usage reporting that shows which tasks use the most AI and where money was spent, and team deployment through MDM with organizational budgets and spend tracking.

- AutoRouter works with Codex (in the app and CLI) and Claude Code. More apps are coming. It runs on macOS 14 or later.
- Does AutoRouter store my code and prompts?
- Requests pass through AutoRouter's servers en route to each provider, but transcripts are not stored. The app keeps the opening message of each turn (up to 4,000 characters) to review routing, along with records of the model chosen, tokens and cost.
