What it is
Monarch CLI is a terminal coding agent from Cymela that gives AI models real file-editing, search, git and shell tools. It runs against a model provider you choose and pay for, with no Cymela account or telemetry. The agent operates with plan-mode guardrails and permission prompts so you control what it can do. It supports thirteen providers across OpenAI-compatible, Anthropic and Gemini formats, plus local servers and gateways. Every turn is persisted and checkpointed with auto-compaction before the context window overflows, and memory persists across sessions stored only on your machine. The tool is distributed on npm and requires Node.js 20 or newer.

- Does Monarch CLI require a Cymela account?
- No. There is no Cymela account, no telemetry, and no Cymela server in the path. You configure your own model provider and API key on first run.
- What was Cymela CLI renamed to?
- The tool was renamed from Cymela CLI to Monarch CLI in version 2.0.0. The npm packages npmjs.com/package/monarchai and npmjs.com/package/cymela install the same tool and track the same releases.
