Large Print Maker

What it is

Large Print Maker is a free web application that converts any text into printable large print PDFs following American Printing House for the Blind guidelines. Users paste or type text, choose from three font sizes (18, 24 or 28 point), select paper size and background color, then download a formatted PDF ready to print. The tool supports sans serif typefaces (Atkinson Hyperlegible and Liberation Sans), 1.25 line spacing, and left alignment on black text with white or cream backgrounds. It requires no account, no upload, and all processing happens in the user's browser. The service includes ready-made templates for calendars, games, hymns, prayers, and daily documents.

Questions from the bench

How do you make a large print PDF from your own text?

Paste or type text into the maker, choose a type size, paper size and background, then press the download button. The tool has four steps: enter text, select formatting options, download the PDF, and open it to print or save to share. You can format text with markdown: start lines with # for headings, - for bullets, and use double stars for bold text.

Does my text get uploaded anywhere?

No. The PDF is built in your own browser. Your pasted text is not sent to the site servers or to Google. The only data transmitted are requests for the typeface and PDF software, but your text content remains completely private and unseen by the service.

Which type size should I choose?

Start with 18 point for everyday reading. Use 24 point for instructions, schedules, songs and hymns for groups. Use 28 point for wall sheets, score cards, or reading at arm's length. APH designates 18 point or larger as large print, with 20 point for subheadings and 22 point for headings.

Which ready-made large print sheets can I print?

The service offers pre-made templates including score sheets for games like Yahtzee, Bingo, Bunco, and Pinochle; Christmas carols and hymns; Biblical texts including Psalms and the Ten Commandments; puzzles like Sudoku and Word Search; calendars; lists like grocery lists and phone books; money forms; and other documents like a blood pressure log and weekly planner.
