What is the Product review and how do I order it?

The paid Product review is a commissioned long-form assessment of your product, written from your public website, with its own page on Maker Launches.

Updated

The review itself

The Product review ($19) is a detailed write-up of what your product does, who it's for, how it works and what limits it has. We post it on its own page at /launch/<listing>/product-review, and pull an excerpt onto your listing page marked 'Commissioned by the maker'.

You pay for it, but you cannot edit it. It's an honest assessment—we note both what works and what doesn't—not a sales pitch.

How we write it

Once you've paid, we visit your public website fresh: your home page, about, pricing, features, FAQ, docs, whatever you've published. We read those pages and your listing only. We don't invent detail; where your pages don't answer something, the review says so plainly. The finished piece covers key takeaways, pros and cons, who it suits, a six-point check of what your pages claim, common buyer questions, a verdict and the sources we used.

If your website goes down or blocks access, we try again several times. If we still can't read it, the review is held for our team to look at instead of being published thin.

Where and when it appears

The full review gets its own page after we finish it. Your listing shows a short snippet in a 'Product review' block. The listing's reviews page shows the summary and key takeaways alongside community reviews, always separate from them.

The review never affects votes, ratings or rankings on this site. It doesn't count as a vote and it never moves a leaderboard.

How to order it

When you pick a paid launch, add it as an extra on the plan step. For an existing listing, sign in, go to /account/listings, choose 'Upgrades and extras' next to your listing and press the button to order. Check /pricing for the current cost.

All Product reviews on Maker Launches are listed side by side at /reviews ("Bench reviews" in the footer, shown once one exists).

Questions people ask

Can I edit the review after it's published?
No. You commission the review and pay for it, but you can't change it once we've written it from your public website.
Does the Product review affect my ranking on Maker Launches?
No. Reviews don't count towards votes or rankings. Leaderboard positions come from community votes (and, on the billboard, money contributed).
What if my website is down when you try to write it?
We try again several times. If it stays inaccessible, the review is held for our team; if they write it from your listing alone, the review notes that.
