White Screen Light

What it is

White Screen Light is a free online utility that transforms any display into a calibrated pure white screen (#FFFFFF) or custom color canvas. The tool requires no installation or registration and runs entirely in your browser. It serves multiple purposes: providing soft ambient lighting for reading and video calls, testing displays for dead pixels and backlight bleeding, functioning as a digital tracing lightbox for artists and designers, and offering strobe and refresh rate diagnostics. The application features full-screen mode, adjustable brightness controls, keyboard shortcuts, and color presets, optimized for all devices including desktops, tablets, and smartphones.

Questions from the bench

How do I get a blank white screen in full screen mode?

Visit whitescreenlight.com and press the 'F' key or click the Fullscreen button. This expands the pure white (#FFFFFF) canvas edge-to-edge across your entire monitor, hiding all browser tabs, navigation bars, and margins.

How do I check my display for dead pixels?

Set your display brightness to maximum and enter fullscreen mode on whitescreenlight.com. Inspect your screen closely against the solid white background. Completely dead pixels stand out as permanent black dots.

Can this tool be used as a webcam fill light for video calls?

Yes. Positioning a laptop, monitor, or tablet displaying a bright white screen beside your webcam acts as an effective softbox key light, casting a soft, even white glow across your face and reducing shadows during video calls.

How do I use my screen as a digital tracing lightbox?

Set your device brightness to maximum, activate fullscreen mode, and place your paper sketch over the screen. The pure white light illuminates through the paper, allowing you to trace outlines and transfer drawings with high precision.

Is displaying a solid white screen safe for OLED and LCD monitors?

Yes. On LCD and LED displays, showing a solid white screen poses zero risk. For OLED and AMOLED displays, it is safe for regular use; for continuous multi-hour lighting, slightly lowering the brightness prevents unnecessary panel heat.
