What it is

wardic.dev, as visitors see it

Wardic is an animation library that brings Motion for React's familiar API to the Solid framework. It enables developers to create animated elements with initial and animate states, exit animations, variants that cascade through component trees, gesture controls like hover, press, and focus, as well as drag, pan, and layout animations. The library includes shared-element animations and the ability to create values that follow scroll position or pointer movement.

Key to Wardic's design is its modular Features system: pages only ship the animation code they actually use. Each feature like drag, layout, or gesture recognition is loaded separately, allowing developers to optimize bundle size by loading features on demand. On server-rendered pages, mount animations play before JavaScript loads, and the client takes over mid-animation.

Built on Effect, Wardic performs animation retargeting, unmounts, and frame updates in approximately half the time of Motion for React. The library is MIT licensed and includes code ported from Motion, also MIT licensed.

Wardic uses a modular Features system where each page ships only the animation code it uses. Developers can load features on demand, and the library warns in development if a feature is missing.
How does Wardic perform on server-rendered pages?
On server-rendered pages, mount animations play before the JavaScript has loaded, and the client takes over mid-flight for a seamless animation experience.
What Features does Wardic support?
Wardic supports features including hover, press, focus, inView detection, pan, drag with constraints and glide, layout animations, and color spaces like oklch(), oklab(), lab(), lch(), hwb(), and color().
How does Wardic compare in performance to Motion for React?
Wardic is faster than Motion for React, retargeting and handling unmounts and each running frame in approximately half the time.
