A browser extension that replaces YouTube's clickbait thumbnails with frames from the middle of each video.
What it is
Unclickbait is a free browser extension that replaces YouTube's clickbait thumbnails with frames from the videos themselves. Instead of seeing shocking faces or red arrows, you see an actual frame from the middle of the video. The extension works across your entire YouTube experience: on your home feed, in search results, beside videos you're watching, in playlists, and in Shorts.
The extension runs entirely in your browser with no account required, no analytics, and no servers. It shows YouTube's own frames that the platform already keeps from each video. You can turn it on or off anytime from the extension's popup.

Questions from the bench
- Why does Unclickbait show the frame from the middle of the video?
- YouTube keeps three frames from each video, taken from about a quarter, half, and three-quarters of the way through. Unclickbait shows the middle frame because at that point the video is well under way and more representative of its actual content.
- What happens if YouTube has no frame available?
- Where YouTube has no frame yet, such as with live streams or videos still processing, you see the uploader's original thumbnail.
- Is Unclickbait affiliated with YouTube?
- No. Unclickbait is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by YouTube or Google. Your use of YouTube remains subject to YouTube's own terms.
