TimeCardPal

What it is

TimeCardPal is a free time card calculator that helps hourly workers and small business owners add up hours worked, calculate overtime and convert time to decimal hours for payroll. You enter your clock in and clock out times for each day, specify any unpaid breaks, and the calculator shows total hours, decimal hours, overtime and gross pay. The tool runs entirely in your browser on any device with no account required, and all entries stay on your device without being uploaded to servers. It supports overtime rules for US federal law, California, Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario, with options to customise rules for other regions.

Questions from the bench

How do I calculate hours worked on a time card?

Subtract the time in from the time out for each day, take away any unpaid breaks, then add the days together. For example, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM with a 30-minute lunch is 8 hours.

Does the calculator handle overnight shifts?

Yes. If the time out is earlier than the time in, such as 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM, the calculator treats it as a shift that ends the next day and counts 8 hours.

When does overtime start?

Under federal law, overtime starts after 40 hours worked in a workweek, paid at 1.5 times the regular rate. You can change the threshold and rate if your state or employer uses different rules.

Is my data saved or shared?

Your entries and time cards are stored only in your browser on your device. Nothing is uploaded to servers, and you can delete saved time cards or switch off the remember entries feature at any time.

Can I mark paid leave or unpaid leave?

Yes. Open More options and each day gets a Type box. Paid leave is paid at your regular rate and is not counted toward overtime, while unpaid leave adds no hours and no pay.
