Is my data really private?

Yes. Documents are converted locally with MarkItDown, so they never leave your machine and there's no account to create. Only images you send through OCR and URLs you choose to import reach the network. You can choose from built-in OCR providers or add a custom provider with your own API key.

Which file formats are supported?

Sygal supports 29 formats total: 17 document types (PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, HTML, CSV, TXT, Markdown, JSON, XML, EPUB, RTF, Outlook MSG, EML, Jupyter IPYNB, ZIP archives and legacy XLS) converted locally, and 12 image types (PNG, JPG, GIF, WEBP, TIFF, HEIC, HEIF, AVIF) plus screenshots processed through OCR. You can also import URLs including web pages, YouTube, and RSS/Atom feeds. Output is clean Markdown or structured JSON for files up to 200 MB.

Is it really a one-time payment?

Yes. It costs €25 at launch, then €29. There is no subscription, no usage limits, and no renewal. One app licence covers 2 seats usable on both desktop and CLI, and you get free updates within the major version.

Which OCR provider should I choose?

Choose based on cost and volume. Mistral is the cheapest with a flat per-page price and an even cheaper batch mode, ideal for large volumes of scans. OpenAI (the default) is billed per token by image resolution and works well for everyday documents. Claude is also per token but pricier at volume.

Do I need an internet connection?

No. Document conversion happens locally on your machine without internet. You only need internet when using OCR (to connect to your chosen provider) or when importing URLs.
