Stirling PDF is a free, open-source PDF platform with three core components. The PDF Reader offers lightning-fast reading with simple tools for casual use. The PDF Editor provides 60+ powerful tools for editing PDFs on any computer or server, keeping all processing private on your infrastructure. The PDF Processor enables automation of PDF workflows, including OCR, classification, validation, redaction, compression, and routing, allowing you to process thousands of PDFs at once.

You can call Stirling from your own code, connect it to tools your team already uses, or interact with it through an AI assistant. It supports APIs and MCP for programmatic document operations, with features like pipelines for chaining operations, policies for applying rules at source, and connectors for integration with existing tools.

Stirling started as a weekend experiment with one engineer and four features, posted to Reddit. Today it has grown to over 30 million downloads and runs inside 55,000 companies worldwide. The platform is validated by security experts and is used by 75% of the Fortune 500.
