What it is

Slashspace is a desktop application that replaces linear chat scrolls with an infinite canvas where AI conversations branch and sit side by side with your sources. Instead of pushing previous messages out of view, every chat, PDF, web page and note stays visible, letting you hold more context in mind and connect ideas across your work.

You can fork any conversation from a single sentence to chase a tangent without losing the main thread, compare different AI models side by side on identical context, and wire in PDFs, documents, videos and notes for the AI to read directly. The canvas keeps your entire project visible for weeks, and you can come back to any branch with full context preserved.

Slashspace works with your existing Claude or ChatGPT subscriptions through official CLIs, your own API keys for OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, xAI and others, local models via Ollama, or optional hosted models. Your canvases and conversations are saved locally on your own computer, making it local-first and privacy-focused.

Why is a canvas better than a chat scroll?

A chat scroll shows only the last few messages in view, leaving everything else hidden or requiring scrolling. On a canvas, every branch, PDF, web page and note sits side by side where you can see it all at once, letting you hold more of the problem in mind and connect ideas across different parts of your work.

Is Slashspace a ChatGPT alternative?

Not exactly. ChatGPT and similar linear chat apps are good for quick questions and simple tasks. Slashspace is for longer, branching work that doesn't fit in a single thread. You can use ChatGPT's models inside Slashspace if you choose, but Slashspace is built for research, learning, and complex thinking that requires seeing many ideas at once.

Where are my canvases and work stored?

On your computer. Slashspace is local-first and saves your canvases, conversations and files in a folder you own. Documents and web pages you add are processed on Slashspace's servers so the AI can read them.

Can I use my existing Claude or ChatGPT subscription?

Yes. Slashspace integrates with Claude Code and Codex so you can run chats on your own Claude or ChatGPT subscription. You can also add API keys for OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, xAI and many other providers, or run local models with Ollama.

Why is a canvas better?
