Questions from the bench

Is OpenImmersive Translator related to Immersive Translate?
No. OpenImmersive Translator is an independent open-source project with its own team and code, completely separate from Immersive Translate (沉浸式翻译).
What is side-by-side translation?
Side-by-side translation keeps the original text on the page and puts the translation right underneath each paragraph, so you can read and compare both versions. OpenImmersive Translator does this on any web page in Chrome, Firefox and Edge, and you can switch to translation-only mode when you just want the meaning.
Is the browser extension open source?
Yes. The OpenImmersive Translator extension is licensed under AGPL-3.0 and its code is available on GitHub, where you can read it, report issues or build it yourself.
Does side-by-side translation work on every website?
Side-by-side translation works on web pages in Chrome, Firefox and Edge once the extension is installed, and the page's original layout stays as it was. Browsers do not allow extensions to run on their internal pages like the new-tab page.
Can I use OpenImmersive with my own translation API keys?
Yes. You can provide your own DeepL, OpenAI or DeepSeek API keys and pay those providers directly, instead of using the free Google, Microsoft or MyMemory engines.
