Modaal is a macOS app that turns your idea into production-ready native Swift and Kotlin apps, with real code you own and control.

What it is

modaal.dev, as visitors see it

Modaal is a macOS app for building native iOS and Android apps with AI. You describe what you want to build, and your own AI coding agent writes real Swift and SwiftUI for iOS and real Kotlin and Jetpack Compose for Android. The code is yours—on your disk, exportable at any time, and ready to ship to the App Store and Google Play.

Every feature starts with a plan you approve. The agent reads your description or PRD, then writes a spec covering overview, user scenarios, technical approach, implementation steps, files to modify, risks and testing strategy. You review and approve it before code is written.

Modaal uses Duet, an open-source cross-platform framework, to keep iOS and Android in sync. Business logic is written once; each platform renders its own fully native UI—SwiftUI on iPhone and Jetpack Compose on Android. You can start with both platforms or iOS first, adding Android later.

Bring your own AI subscription: Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot or any of 13 supported agents. No per-token markups. Real Xcode and Android Studio projects stay on your disk from the first build, ready to export at any time.

What it is built with

  • Spec-driven development with PRD and feature specs reviewed before code generation
  • One shared core for iOS and Android with native UI per platform
  • Supports 13 coding agents including Claude, Codex, Cursor, Gemini, GitHub Copilot
  • Native platform features: Widgets, Live Activities, Shortcuts, Sensors, Watch Apps, Wallet
  • Open-source Duet framework for cross-platform feature parity

Questions from the bench

Do I need a Mac to build an iOS app?
Yes. Building and running native iOS apps requires macOS and Xcode. Modaal currently supports Apple Silicon Macs (M1 or newer) because they deliver faster builds and a more reliable developer environment.
Do I need a general-purpose coding agent to use Modaal?
Yes. Modaal requires a connected coding agent to generate and edit the native codebase. You can use any of the 13 popular agents available.
How much does it cost to build an app with Modaal?
Modaal is a fixed subscription with no credits. You also pay separately for the coding agent subscription. In practice, many builders spend roughly €40–€80/month total for light-to-medium prototyping.
How is Modaal different from Claude Code or other AI coding tools?
Modaal runs on top of coding agents like Claude Code, Codex and Cursor—it is not an alternative to them. Modaal orchestrates your existing agent and adds everything needed between a terminal agent and a shipping native app: project scaffolding, build-and-fix loops through Xcode, and architecture management that survives context resets.
How hard is it to set up Modaal?
Setup is straightforward. You install Xcode (usually ~20 minutes) and a supported CLI coding agent (typically ~10–30 minutes). Modaal checks your setup automatically and shows exactly what is missing. If it's difficult, you can book a 15-minute onboarding call and we set it up together.
