What it is

Jern Cloud is a cloud coding agent that automates maintenance tasks on GitHub repositories. You can schedule dependency upgrades or send the agent any issue, and it runs on a fresh isolated machine with no setup required. The agent runs your tests on the untouched code first, then makes changes, runs tests again, and opens a pull request showing exactly what changed and the cost of model calls used.

Each attempt includes a receipt detailing test results before and after, files modified, model calls with provider request IDs, and token usage. The agent never merges pull requests—that remains under your control. You can stop attempts at any time and keep what the agent completed.

Campaigns let you schedule recurring maintenance with safety limits: a budget cap, maximum open pull requests, which paths can be changed, and acceptance criteria. Start with one canary repository, then roll out to others. The agent has no access to GitHub tokens or API keys during execution, uses short-lived credentials for each operation, and all network connections go through a proxy that blocks private addresses.

The platform supports Python, Node, .NET, and Java. During the 30-day free trial you get $5 of inference included with no API key needed. After that, you use your own provider key (Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini, or Fireworks) and pay $19 per workspace per month for the control plane. The runtime is open source under Apache-2.0 license.

Questions from the bench

Can the agent merge pull requests?
No. The agent pushes to its own branch and opens or updates one pull request. You retain control over merging.
Can the agent access my API keys or GitHub token?
No. The gateway holds your provider key. The checkout token is erased after fetching, and publication uses a token the runner obtains only after policy checks pass.
What happens to my code during an attempt?
Code runs on a machine created for that attempt and destroyed afterwards. As prompts, code goes to your model provider under your own key. Evidence is encrypted before reaching Jern's database.
Can the agent reach the internet?
Under the default Open profile, yes—any public host over HTTPS through the proxy, which blocks private addresses and lists every connection on the receipt. Under a governed baseline, it reaches only the Jern gateway and the exact public hosts the policy allows.
What languages and environments are supported?
Python, Node, .NET, and Java environments are available, plus a general image with Python, Node, and native toolchain. .NET carries SDK 10 with NuGet restore; Java carries Temurin JDK 21 with Maven and Gradle.
