Questions from the bench

What is the average price of propane per gallon right now?
The U.S. average residential propane price was $2.64 per gallon for the week of October 12, 2026, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. New England averaged $3.78.
Why is propane cheaper in the Midwest?
Prices vary with how far fuel travels to reach homes, how much local demand there is, and how many dealers compete. The Midwest average was $2.11 per gallon compared to $3.78 in New England.
How many gallons of propane does a house use in winter?
For a 2,000 square foot home with average insulation, estimates are about 690 gallons over a Connecticut winter and 980 gallons in Minnesota, though usage depends on the home, equipment and weather.
Do EIA propane prices include delivery fees and taxes?
EIA reports the average price delivered to residential customers, excluding taxes. Your dealer's bill can differ because of delivery fees, minimum-delivery rules, tank rental and local taxes.
Is it cheaper to pre-buy propane?
Pre-buying fixes your price for a set number of gallons. It saves money if prices rise before you would have bought, and costs more if they fall. Ask your dealer about the contract terms, minimum volumes and any fees.
