Search thirty classic dream symbols in five languages and read what psychological and cultural interpretation traditions say about them.

What it is

DreamDict is a dream-symbol dictionary that focuses on interpretation rather than prediction. It covers thirty of the most-searched dream symbols such as teeth falling out, water, and being chased in five languages: English, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, and Hindi. Each entry presents what psychological approaches and cultural traditions say about a symbol, where they disagree, and which dream details change the reading.

The site avoids two common approaches: the fortune-cookie dictionary that hands down verdicts with no sources, and the academic wall-of-text with limited accessibility. Instead, it provides genuinely informative content about traditions including Islamic oneiromancy, Hindu swapna shastra, Jungian archetypes, and modern sleep research, while being honest that no tradition can tell you what your dream means better than you can with a journal and honest questions.

Every entry includes a summary of how interpreters read the symbol, the dream details that flip one reading into another, and questions to sit with. The site also offers guides on how to interpret any dream, keeping a dream journal, recurring dreams and nightmares, and what science says about dreams.

Questions from the bench

Do dream symbols have fixed meanings?
No. Symbols gain meaning from your life, your culture and the dream's own details. The site provides a map of the interpretations people have reached for across psychology and folk tradition, so you can test which reading actually fits.
Where do these interpretations come from?
Three sources kept distinct on every page: psychological lenses including Freud's wish-fulfilment, Jung's archetypes, and the modern view of dreams as emotional memory processing; folk and cultural traditions labeled as tradition, never as fact; and common-sense context about what was happening in the dream and in your week.
Can dreams predict the future?
There is no reliable evidence that dreams foretell events. Dreams are very good at replaying what already concerns you. The site treats every entry as interpretation, not prediction.
Why do I keep dreaming the same thing?
Recurring dreams usually flag an unresolved stressor or emotion the sleeping mind keeps returning to. The site's guide to recurring dreams covers when repetition is normal and when recurring nightmares warrant talking to a professional.
Is this site a substitute for professional help?
No. It is a reference for the curious. If your dreams cause real distress, disrupt your sleep for weeks, or involve trauma, that is a conversation for a doctor or therapist, not a dictionary.
