A Windows app that reads APFS and Mac OS Extended drives without installing a driver, never writes to them, and verifies every copied file.

What it is

Diskferry is a Windows utility that lets you access Mac drives connected to your PC. It reads both APFS and Mac OS Extended (HFS+) formatted drives without requiring any driver installation or making changes to the drive itself.

The app works by opening drives in read-only mode, so Windows refuses any write operations and the drive cannot be accidentally modified or formatted. Once you locate your Mac drive, you can browse its contents, preview files, and copy whatever you need to your PC.

Every file you copy is automatically verified using SHA-256 checksums and compared against the original on the Mac drive. You receive a report showing which files copied successfully and which, if any, failed to copy. The app leaves no partial or empty files on your PC.

What it is built with

  • Reads APFS and Mac OS Extended drives without driver installation
  • SHA-256 verification of every copied file
  • Supports password-encrypted APFS volumes
  • Opens disk images (.img, .cdr, raw .dmg)
  • Works with external SSDs, hard drives, USB sticks and SD cards
  • No kernel-level driver installation required
  • Case-sensitive HFS+ support
  • Detailed copy report with success and failure information

Pricing

Pricing model: Freemium

Free: browsing and previewing Mac drives. $14.99: one-time unlock for copying files and SHA-256 verification.

Questions from the bench

Will Diskferry change anything on my Mac drive?
No. Diskferry opens the drive with read access only, so Windows itself refuses any write through it. It does not mount the drive, does not give it a drive letter, and never offers to format or repair it. Your files are read and copied to a folder you choose on your PC.
Do I need to install a driver or reformat the drive?
Neither. Diskferry is an ordinary Microsoft Store app with nothing running in the Windows kernel. Uninstalling it leaves nothing behind. Your drive stays exactly as your Mac left it.
How do I know the copies are good?
After copying, Diskferry reads every file back and compares its SHA-256 checksum with the original on the Mac drive. You get a report showing either all files are identical or the exact list of files that failed. It never leaves an empty file in place of one it could not read.
Which drives does it read?
External drives, USB sticks, SD cards and disk images formatted on a Mac as APFS (including password-encrypted volumes) or Mac OS Extended (HFS+, including case-sensitive). It does not yet support writing to the drive, drive letters in File Explorer, the internal SSD of Macs with a T2 or Apple silicon chip, Time Machine backups, Fusion Drives, or encrypted or compressed .dmg files.
Is Diskferry a replacement for MacDrive or Paragon?
Not if you work from a Mac drive on Windows every day. For long-term read and write use, a file system driver is the better tool. Diskferry is for the day you need your files off a Mac drive safely, without installing a driver.
