Clean Retype detects hidden content in documents including tracked changes, comments, author names, hidden text, and metadata that isn't visible on the page. Users can check files free in their browser without uploading, then purchase clean copies where each page is read and rebuilt to contain only visible content.
The service works with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF files up to 20 MB and 50 pages. After cleaning, users receive a detailed report showing everything that was removed. The rebuilt Word files maintain formatting like headings, lists, tables and pictures, while PDFs are reconstructed from page images to preserve appearance.

- Is the free check really free and private?
- Yes, the check runs inside your web browser so your file is never uploaded, stored or seen by Clean Retype. It works with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF files.
- Do you keep my documents?
- No. Your original is deleted as soon as it has been read, and the clean copy is deleted 15 minutes after it's ready or immediately if you click Delete. File contents and names are never stored or used for training.
- Is the retyping accurate?
- Very accurate. Every word is double-checked against your original, so errors like 0 for O are corrected. For ordinary typed documents, almost every word is confirmed this way.
- Does it remove AI watermarks?
- It removes hidden AI labels stored inside the file like metadata tags and invisible characters. It cannot change watermarks built into the wording itself. If AI helped write your document, mark it as AI-assisted or tell the person you're sending it to.
