Buvard is an AI-powered flashcard generator that converts lectures, PDFs, Word documents, text files and notes into Anki flashcards. Users upload material of up to 300,000 characters and can choose between three card formats: question-and-answer, cloze deletions, and multiple choice. The application supports mathematics and LaTeX formulas, detects language automatically, and allows adjustment of card density. Generated decks export as .apkg files, Anki's native format, and open directly in Anki on desktop and mobile without additional software.

The first four decks are free with no payment required, and include 600 cards per month. Paid passes are available for one, three, six or twelve months with no automatic renewal, allowing users to access up to 1,500 cards per deck and unlimited deck creation.

Questions from the bench

What exactly is an .apkg file?
It is Anki's native deck format. Once downloaded, it opens with a double click on desktop, or from the import menu in AnkiMobile and AnkiDroid. Your cards join your usual collection and follow your own spaced repetition schedule.
What happens to the documents I upload?
Your text is sent to the model for the sole purpose of writing the cards, then it is forgotten. Buvard keeps only a 500-character excerpt shown in your history so you can recognise a deck. Nothing is used to train a model, nothing is shared.
Which languages does Buvard work in?
By default the cards are written in the language detected in your document. You can also force an output language, or switch to language-learning mode to choose the front and the back language separately.
How does the pass work?
A pass is bought once for a fixed length: one, three, six or twelve months. There is no automatic charge, no renewal and nothing to cancel—when the period ends, your account simply returns to the free plan.
What can I feed Buvard?
A PDF, a Word document, a text file, or text pasted straight in: a lecture chapter, notes taken in class, an article, a video transcript. You can also start from a plain topic (“the French Revolution, 1789-1799”). Once you are signed in, a photo of a whiteboard or of a handwritten page is read too.
