Argos Paws

What it is

Argos Paws provides free, science-based tools and practical guides for dog owners. The site includes 12 calculators—such as an AI breed identifier, puppy weight predictor, food cost calculator, and pet insurance calculator—plus 51 guides covering topics from emergency vet costs to senior dog care.

The work is research and compilation, gathering data from industry bodies, insurers, and veterinary associations and presenting it in plain language with every figure attributed. Argos Paws is not a veterinary practice and nothing on the site is a diagnosis or treatment plan.

The site is reader-supported through affiliate links, but maintains editorial independence—guides include sections on when products aren't worth buying, even for services that generate referral income.

Questions from the bench

Is Argos Paws written by a veterinarian?

No. Argos Paws is not a veterinary practice and no one here is a veterinarian. Nothing on this site is a diagnosis or a treatment plan. For anything concerning your dog specifically, your vet is the only reliable source.

How do you source the cost figures on the site?

Figures come from industry and government sources first—NAPHIA's State of the Industry report for insurance data, the Bureau of Labor Statistics for cost inflation, the ASPCA and AVMA for care guidelines, and published academic or industry studies where they exist. Every cost figure is attributed with sources listed at the bottom of guides.

How does Argos Paws make money?

Argos Paws is reader-supported through affiliate links. If you sign up for a service or buy a product through an affiliate link, the site may earn a commission or referral fee at no extra cost to you. The site only links to products and services believed to be genuinely useful, and all tools and calculators are free regardless of whether you click through.

What data do you collect from users?

Calculators like the Puppy Weight Predictor and Dog Food Cost Calculator run entirely in your browser. Any values you enter are used only to calculate your result on your device and are never sent to or stored on the servers. The site collects standard technical information like approximate location, browser type, and pages visited through analytics, but this is not used to identify you personally.

Why is the site named after Argos?

Argos is Odysseus's dog from Homer's Odyssey—the only one who recognizes him after twenty years away, waiting loyally until the very end. The site was named after him because that's the kind of relationship the creators think dog ownership deserves: patient, practical, and built on actually understanding what your dog needs.
